Many of us think that it is a big thing to have lot of friends. Just imagine how cool it would be to go everywhere with your gang, to have parties with them and crack your own jokes! It sounds exiting right?
We think people who are having fewer friends to be just a**holes that no one likes to be with. We judge them thinking they are very proud, rude, silent and not socialize at all. However, this recent study by the British Journal of Psychology will make you change your attitude henceforth.
They say smarter people do better with a smaller amount of friends.
Satoshi Kanazawa and Norman Li, who were the researchers engaged in the study says that while most people’s happiness increased in relation to a decrease in population density or their interactions with the loved ones, intelligent people are actually happier when they are hanging out with no one.
“More intelligent individuals experience lower life satisfaction with more frequent socialization with friends.”
Carol Graham, a Brookings institute researcher once said to The Washington Post that “The findings suggest that those with more intelligence and the capacity to use it are less likely to spend so much time socializing because they are focused in some other longer term objectives.”
However, above mentioned idea make sense after all. Super intelligent people have much goals and focuses to accomplish in life and they would not find pleasure in things like friend seeking. The pleasure that we gain by being is temporary whereas if you allocate that time to something important you would surely feel much contented.
Study also focuses on ancient details and they bring up the view that brains of our hunting ancestors were perfectly adapted to life on the African Savannah, where the population must have been very limited. They must have had social connections to survive and to find mates but, space would have been crucial as well.
Researchers believe the idea that the highly intelligent individuals quickly adapt to the modern way of life and they are too much linked with human connections and they don’t seek social interactions.
So if you are someone who prefers to stay at home and complete the day’s work rather than having outings with a bunch of people and talk nonsense, don’t worry, you are not abnormal. You are just being intelligent!
