The Labrador retriever is considered as the traditional waterdog of Newfoundland, hence long employed as a duck retriever and as a fisherman’s best mate. The breed began its balanced climb to supreme recognition and popularity in the early 1800s, when Labs were seen by the English aristocrats, visiting Canada. These sporting nobles and lords returned to England with elegant illustrations of “Labrador dogs.” The Lab’s thick, tapping tail which looked like an “otter tail,” serves as a strong flutter, constantly moving back and forth as the dog swims and helps the dog in turning. As per the breed’s characteristics, it is as much a hallmark of the breed as the otter tail.
“The ideal disposition is one of a kindly, outgoing, tractable nature; eager to please and non-aggressive towards man or animal,” the breed standard says.

“The Labrador has much that appeals to people, his gentle ways, intelligence, and adaptability make him an ideal dog.”

These labs are naturally considered water lovers and thus they tend to be good swimmers. They have webbed toes that make it easy for them to dive in the water. After they are done swimming around, they play about in the garden to dry themselves out.

Recently, a lovely instance of a father Labrador taking his pups out for a swim was captured on camera and thus went viral among the users of the Internet. In the beginning, they looked afraid of the water yet once they see their father enjoying it, they eventually follow his lead.

Labradors are very friendly animals and could be considered the most outgoing species of dogs. In conclusion, this video depicts how naturally amusing they are and how much they love to play around and feel active and energetic all the time.
