“He let me sit next to him for over an hour”.
Brighid Rose was paying her parents a visit when she met an unexpected guest. Well, it was not a guest per say. Rather it has been making itself at home!
It was a tiny mouse who has been stealing their food all the time. Brighid’s parents were not so happy about the freeloader and wanted him gone. And they had hoped that their cat would do the job.
However, Brighid did not have the heart to wish that the mouse would be gone. After seeing the mouse, she decided that she was going to take a gentler approach. A much, much gentler approach.
“I scooped him up and brought him out to the field behind their house,” Brighid told.
And she didn’t stop there.
Safely relocating the little mouse would have been good enough. But, she decided to go a step further. In fact, decided to take a step further.
“I felt bad just leaving him there in the field, especially since he must have been used to eating all that human food in my parents’ cabinets,” Brighid said. “So, I brought him a little goodbye picnic.”
She used a napkin as a picnic blanket and set the scene. She put some food on the napkin and made it a cute little picnic.
And as expected, the mouse loved it.
“It was really sweet,” Brighid said. “He let me sit next to him for over an hour. He seemed very happy to me.”
And here is a video showing how the picnic went.
After some time, the mouse found a cozy place that he can use as shelter. And Brighid provided the mouse with some more food so that it will be easier for him to get back on his feet and get familiar with living outdoors.
Treating this mouse with dignity, and giving him a little picnic, came as second nature for Brighid.
“I have always just really loved animals. I didn’t really think too hard about it. Like, I should do this for him! It’s not his fault he’s a little mouse in a big world!” she said. “It was so cute! Definitely made my day.”
