“The Eye of Binhai”: Beautiful Library With 1.2 Million Books

Nobody likes being watched while enjoying a book but we think you will be more than happy to make an exception if being watched while enjoying a book means going to visit this library in China. In fact, the incredible architectural structure of this library has a giant spherical auditorium in the middle that looks just like a giant eye.

#1. Located in the Binhai Cultural District in Tianjin, the five-story library, which was designed by the Dutch design firm MVRDV in collaboration with the Tianjin Urban Planning and Design Institute (TUPDI)

#2. Its nick name is “The Eye of Binhai”

#3. It covers 34,000 square meters and can hold up to 1.2 million books.

#4. It took them three years to finish building the library. It has a reading area on the ground floor, lounge areas in the middle sections and offices, meeting spaces, and computer/audio rooms at the top.

#5. And there is no guarantee that you will get any studying done! Because, you know, the structure is amazing that it will distract you!

#8. As it turns out, most of these futuristic-looking floor to ceiling shelves are painted to look like they’re full of books, but in reality, much of the covers in the hall are printed images. The real books are stored in other rooms in the building.
