Meet 9-Month-Old The Penguin “Pesto”, Who’s The Besto, Weighing 22 Kgs

Adult king penguins own colorful coats while their young own fuzzy brown coats. Pesto the baby king penguin is from the Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium and he is no ordinary king penguin. What makes Pesto unique is his weight. Even though he is merely 9 months old, he already weighs 22kg. This king penguin chick feeds on 25 fish a day. Pesto came into this world on the 31st of January and he is the aquarium’s only chick to hatch this year.

His fuzzy and cute appearance has enabled him to go viral. Sources of the aquarium inform that more than 1.9 billion individuals from around the globe have had a look at him through social media.

According to findings adult king penguins in general weigh 9.5 kg to 18 kg. Even Hudson and Tango, who are Pesto’s foster parents weigh 11kg. Compared to them the chick appears as if a giant.

His fascinating weight is due to good genes and good parents. It is also important to note that Pesto’s biological father is the biggest penguin at the aquarium. “He’s officially the largest chick SEA LIFE Melbourne has ever seen, making him a huge hit with guests and fans around the world,” the aquarium website communicated. They admitted to the chick being an absolute crowd-pleaser. Since the chick is slowly transforming into an adult he will begin to lose his brown feathers.

Pesto’s keepers assume that his weight will reduce to around 15kg. “He’s going to start losing that really adorable baby fluff. It might take him one to two months to really get rid of it. Then he’ll be nice and sleek and streamlined,” expressed the education supervisor at the aquarium, Jacinta Early.

People from around the world love Pesto’s images and videos as they are a pure source of joy. The aquarium hopes that this love will remain consistent even when Pesto approaches adulthood. Feel free to share Pesto’s story with your family and friends as his images are guaranteed to put a smile on their faces as well.
