Recently an obese cat was discovered in the basement of a hospital in Perm, Russia. The creature was then rescued and brought to the city’s Matroskin Center. The cat named Kroshik, which means “Crumbs” in English, weighed 17kg which is the size of a human child. It is assumed that the creature was abandoned by his previous owners. Kroshik had been living on meat, crackers and soup so it comes as no surprise that he was suffering from obesity.
According to the staff members at the shelter, when he arrived he was unable to move about due to being overweight. The vets even faced difficulties when performing an ultrasound scan on Kroshik since his thick layer of body fat created a barrier to the sensor’s view. “Kroshik’s story is an extremely rare case when someone loved a cat so much that they fattened him to such a state that the cat cannot even move,” the rescuers shared through an Instagram post.

He was then put on a regimented diet and the staff ensured that he received adequate exercise. These steps were taken to bring Kroshik’s weight to a healthy level. The staff were concerned as an unhealthy weight could lead to a decreased life expectancy, diabetes, arthritis and even urinary disease.

The Matroskin Center even posted a video of the obese cat walking on a water treadmill. People were glad to see the ginger cat learning to walk again. Kroshik has to undergo hydrotherapy and kinesiotherapy 3-4 times a week.

The shelter believes that through this rehabilitation program the creature would lose 70-150 grams weekly. However, Kroshik’s rehabilitation is costly and the shelter expressed that it would cost them 30,000 rubles.
They have taken this matter to social media with the hope that kindhearted individuals would donate towards the overweight cat’s recovery. “We will be sure to share his recovery success. The baby will definitely come back to life!” the shelter wrote. We are glad to see Kroshik finally getting the proper care that he deserves.
